« The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up. »
In this verse, John describes the judgment released by the first trumpet. Hail, fire, and blood are cast upon the earth, causing widespread destruction of vegetation. One-third of the trees and all green grass are burned up, bringing devastating consequences for the earth’s environment and its inhabitants.
This will be the first judgment of the seven trumpets, immediately following the opening of the seventh seal during the first half of the Tribulation. It marks the beginning of a new series of God’s judgments, which become increasingly severe.
This verse shows that God has complete authority over His creation. The judgments of the seven trumpets remind humanity of the consequences of continually rejecting God while preparing the way for the events that will ultimately lead to the glorious return of Jesus Christ.
« And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise. »
In this verse, John describes the judgment released by the fourth trumpet. God strikes the sun, the moon, and the stars, causing one-third of their light to be darkened. This partial darkness will disrupt the normal cycle of day and night, demonstrating that the Creator has absolute authority over the heavens.
This will be the fourth judgment of the seven trumpets, taking place during the first half of the Tribulation. After the judgments affecting the earth, the sea, and the fresh waters, God will now strike the heavenly bodies, showing that all creation is subject to His sovereign power.
This verse reveals that God’s judgments will extend to the heavens themselves. The darkening of the sun, moon, and stars will be a visible sign to the entire world that the prophecies of Scripture are being fulfilled and that God’s prophetic plan is moving steadily toward its completion.
20 And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:
21 Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.
In this passage, John reveals that despite God’s severe judgments, much of humanity will refuse to repent. Those who survive will continue to practice idolatry, worship demons, and persist in murder, sorcery, sexual immorality, and theft.
This event will take place during the first half of the Tribulation, after the judgments of the fifth and sixth trumpets. Despite God’s repeated warnings, many people will harden their hearts and refuse to turn away from their sins.
This passage shows that God’s judgments are also intended to call people to repentance. Yet those who deliberately reject Jesus Christ will continue in rebellion against God, demonstrating that humanity’s greatest problem is not a lack of evidence for God’s existence, but the hardness of the human heart.
« And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. »
In this verse, John hears the sounding of the seventh trumpet, followed by a heavenly proclamation announcing the ultimate victory of Jesus Christ. Although the final judgments have not yet been poured out, heaven celebrates the certainty of the Lord’s coming reign, because His victory is assured.
This will be the seventh and final judgment of the seven trumpets, marking the transition to the seven bowls of God’s wrath, which will be poured out during the Great Tribulation. These final judgments will lead directly to the glorious return of Jesus Christ, the defeat of the Antichrist, and the establishment of His Millennial Kingdom.
This verse reminds us that despite the rebellion and turmoil of the last days, God remains in complete control of history. The reign of Jesus Christ is certain and will bring an end to the kingdoms of this world, establishing His eternal Kingdom of righteousness and peace.
