The Abomination of Desolation is one of the most significant prophetic events in the entire Bible. Foretold by the prophet Daniel, confirmed by Jesus Christ, and connected to the book of Revelation, it marks the decisive turning point in the events of the last days.
According to Scripture, this event will occur in the middle of the seven-year prophetic period foretold in the prophecy of the Seventy Weeks of Daniel.
After confirming a seven-year covenant with Israel and many nations, the Antichrist will suddenly break that covenant. He will enter the Temple in Jerusalem, put an end to the sacrifices, and demand to be worshiped as God.
This act of rebellion against God is known as the Abomination of Desolation.
From that moment, the Great Tribulation will begin—the final three and a half years during which God’s judgments will reach their greatest intensity before the glorious return of Jesus Christ.
The Abomination of Desolation therefore marks the transition between the Tribulation and the Great Tribulation.

The expression “Abomination of Desolation” first appears in the book of Daniel. 👇
In the Bible, the word abomination refers to an act of extreme idolatry or sacrilege that is detestable in God’s sight.
The word desolation describes the devastating consequences that follow: judgment, destruction, and abandonment.
In the last days, this prophecy will be fulfilled when the Antichrist desecrates the Temple in Jerusalem and demands the worship of the entire world.
He will no longer present himself merely as a political leader.
Instead, he will claim to be God Himself.
This is why the Abomination of Desolation represents such a dramatic turning point in biblical prophecy.
Until that moment, the Antichrist will still appear to many as a leader capable of bringing peace and stability.
After the Abomination of Desolation, however, his true nature will be fully revealed.
The Abomination of Desolation divides the seven prophetic years into two distinct periods. 👇
Before it:
2) the seven-year covenant
3) a temporary period of peace
4) the gradual rise of the Antichrist.
After it:
2) worldwide persecution
4) God’s most severe judgments
5) the final preparation for the return of Jesus Christ.
All major end-times prophecies converge at this event.
That is why Jesus specifically warned His disciples to pay close attention to it.
“Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet…”
Matthew 24:15
Long before announcing the future Abomination of Desolation, several of Daniel’s prophecies were fulfilled with remarkable precision.
Among them:
1) The rebuilding of Jerusalem following the decree of Artaxerxes (445 BC).
2) The coming of the Messiah at the end of the sixty-nine weeks (AD 32, according to the prophetic chronology presented on this website).
3) The death of the Messiah (AD 33).
4) The destruction of Jerusalem and the Second Temple by the Romans (AD 70).
These fulfilled prophecies demonstrate the reliability of Daniel’s message and strengthen our confidence that the final seven-year period will also unfold exactly according to God’s prophetic timetable.

“And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.”
In this prophetic passage, Daniel announces a final period marked by a covenant, the cessation of sacrifices, and a great profanation. This verse is associated with the Antichrist and the events of the end times.
“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.”
In this prophetic passage, Paul the Apostle announces that before the Day of the Lord there will come a great apostasy and the revelation of “the man of sin,” identified as the Antichrist, who will seek to be worshiped as God.
“For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.”
In this prophetic passage, Jesus Christ announces a time of unprecedented suffering in world history, the Great Tribulation of the end times.
“And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.” 👇
In this prophetic passage, John describes the final judgment of the Beast (the Antichrist) and the False Prophet. After deceiving the nations and leading many people to receive the mark of the Beast, they are ultimately judged by God.
