📖  Revelation 17:5

« And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. »

In this verse, John sees a woman bearing the name “BABYLON THE GREAT,” representing a worldwide apostate religious system that stands in opposition to God. She is called “THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS” because she is portrayed as the source of spiritual rebellion, leading the nations into idolatry and away from the worship of the true God.

This Babylon represents more than a single city. It symbolizes a global religious system that will unite the nations in false worship. During part of the Tribulation, it will exercise great influence in alliance with the Antichrist, before ultimately being destroyed by him, as foretold in Revelation 17:16.

This verse reveals that God fully knows the origin and depth of this worldwide spiritual deception. Although this system will appear powerful in the eyes of the world, its judgment is certain, and Babylon the Great will be completely destroyed according to God’s prophetic plan.

📖  Revelation 18:11

« And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more. »

In this verse, John describes the reaction of the merchants of the earth following the fall of Babylon the Great. Those who had become wealthy through her commerce and influence mourn because the economic system on which they depended has suddenly collapsed.

The destruction of Babylon will bring about the collapse of the world’s commercial system. Trade will come to a standstill, goods will no longer be bought, and those who built their fortunes on this system will see their prosperity disappear in a single moment.

This verse reminds us that the wealth and economic power of this world are temporary. God’s judgment will bring the system of Babylon to an end, demonstrating that nothing built in opposition to Him can endure forever.

📖  Revelation 17:16

« And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire. »

In this verse, John reveals a dramatic turning point. The ten kings allied with the Antichrist will turn against Babylon the Great, the worldwide apostate religious system that had previously supported them. They will strip her of her wealth, completely destroy her, and burn her with fire.

This sudden betrayal shows that the alliance between the religious system and the political power of the Antichrist is only temporary. Once the Antichrist has secured his authority, he will no longer tolerate any rival system of worship and will destroy it so that all worship is directed to himself.

This verse demonstrates that God remains sovereign, even over the actions of rebellious rulers. Without realizing it, they carry out God’s judgment against Babylon the Great, fulfilling His prophetic plan exactly as He declared.

📖  Revelation 18:2

« And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. »

In this verse, John hears an angel proclaim the fall of Babylon the Great. This announcement declares with certainty that the system represented by Babylon has been judged and that its destruction is inevitable.

Once powerful and influential, Babylon is now described as a dwelling place of demons and unclean spirits, revealing the depth of its spiritual corruption. Its outward wealth and influence cannot conceal its complete rebellion against God.

This verse shows that every system built on rebellion, idolatry, and the rejection of God will ultimately come to an end. The fall of Babylon the Great demonstrates that God’s justice will finally triumph over every form of corruption and deception.
