Babylon the Great is one of the most mysterious figures in the Book of Revelation. Described as “the mother of harlots and of the abominations of the earth,” she represents a powerful system that will dominate the world before the glorious return of Jesus Christ.
In Revelation chapters 17 and 18, Babylon is presented in two complementary ways: as a global religious system that deceives the nations and as a powerful commercial and economic system that influences the entire world. Both will play a major role during the end times before being suddenly destroyed by God’s judgment.
Babylon the Great will dominate the first half of the Tribulation before being destroyed by the Antichrist, who will then demand worship for himself alone.
The fall of Babylon marks the end of humanity’s rebellious world system and prepares the way for the glorious return of Jesus Christ.

Babylon the Great represents the final world system that stands in opposition to God during the end times👇
In Revelation, John sees a woman called “Babylon the Great” sitting upon a scarlet beast.
“Babylon the Great, the Mother of Harlots and of the Abominations of the Earth.”
Revelation 17:5
Many students of Bible prophecy understand this woman to symbolize a worldwide religious system characterized by idolatry, spiritual compromise, and rejection of the true God.
In Revelation 18, Babylon is also described as a powerful economic and commercial center that enriches the nations and influences the entire world.
Whether Babylon refers to a literal city, a political power, or a global system, the central message remains the same: every human kingdom and system that exalts itself against God will ultimately face His judgment.
Babylon will exercise enormous religious, political, and economic influence during the first half of the Tribulation👇
At the beginning of the seven-year Tribulation, Babylon will promote a worldwide religious system capable of uniting many nations.
During this period, the Antichrist will use this system to strengthen his global authority.
However, everything changes halfway through the Tribulation.
After breaking his covenant with Israel, the Antichrist will reject every religious authority except his own.
The Bible declares that the ten kings allied with the Antichrist will destroy Babylon.
“The ten horns… will hate the harlot, make her desolate and naked, eat her flesh and burn her with fire.”
Revelation 17:16
The Antichrist will then demand worship for himself alone.
The False Prophet will enforce this worship by performing miraculous signs and compelling the inhabitants of the earth to receive the Mark of the Beast (666).
Babylon’s worldwide religious system will therefore give way to the global worship of the Antichrist.
The fall of Babylon demonstrates that God will ultimately destroy every human system built on pride, idolatry, and rebellion against Him👇
Revelation portrays Babylon as a power that enriches the nations, deceives the world, and persecutes God’s people.
Its influence extends across religion, commerce, politics, and culture.
For this reason, God pronounces His judgment.
“Babylon the Great is fallen, is fallen!”
Revelation 18:2
Her destruction will be sudden and complete.
Kings, merchants, and the powerful people of the earth will mourn her collapse because their wealth and influence depended on her.
Babylon’s fall prepares the way for the final events of Bible prophecy:
1) the glorious Second Coming of Jesus Christ
2) the Battle of Armageddon
3) the destruction of the Antichrist and the False Prophet
4) the establishment of Christ’s Millennial Kingdom.
Babylon the Great reminds us that every human empire and worldly system opposed to God is temporary, while the Kingdom of Jesus Christ is eternal and will never be destroyed.
