Daniel chapter 9 contains one of the most important prophecies in the entire Bible. Through the famous prophecy of the Seventy Weeks, God revealed to the prophet Daniel a prophetic timeline spanning centuries—from the rebuilding of Jerusalem to the establishment of the Messiah’s Kingdom.
This prophecy foretells the coming of the Messiah, His death, the destruction of Jerusalem, and a final seven-year period that will play a central role in the events of the end times.
Jesus Christ directly referred to this prophecy in His Olivet Discourse. The apostle Paul echoed it when describing the Antichrist, and the book of Revelation expands upon the events that will unfold during this final prophetic period.
Understanding Daniel 9 is therefore essential for understanding Bible prophecy, the role of the Antichrist, the Great Tribulation, and the glorious return of Jesus Christ.

Daniel chapter 9 begins with prayer.
While reading the writings of the prophet Jeremiah, Daniel realized that the seventy years of Israel’s captivity in Babylon were coming to an end.
Deeply moved, he humbled himself before God, confessed the sins of his people, and prayed for the restoration of Jerusalem.
In response, God sent the angel Gabriel.
But instead of answering only Daniel’s question about the end of the exile, Gabriel revealed a much greater plan.
He announced that God had determined seventy weeks concerning Israel and Jerusalem.
These seventy weeks do not represent seventy literal weeks of days, but prophetic periods of seven years each.
Altogether, they represent 490 years.
According to Daniel 9:24, this period was established to accomplish several divine purposes:
1) to finish transgression;
2) to put an end to sin;
3) to make atonement for iniquity;
4) to bring in everlasting righteousness;
5) to seal up vision and prophecy;
6) and to anoint the Most Holy.
This revelation extends far beyond Israel’s return from exile.
It reveals God’s prophetic timetable leading to the reign of the Messiah.
The prophecy is divided into three sections:
7 weeks (49 years)
62 weeks (434 years)
1 final week (7 years)
The first seven weeks correspond to the rebuilding of Jerusalem following the Babylonian exile.
The next sixty-two weeks lead to the coming of the Messiah.
Daniel then announces a remarkable event.
The Messiah will be “cut off.”
“After the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself.”
Daniel 9:26
Christians understand this prophecy as referring to the death of Jesus Christ.
The same verse also foretells the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple, which was fulfilled in AD 70.
Following these first sixty-nine weeks, there is a gap in the prophetic timeline.
The final week of seven years remains to be fulfilled.
According to the prophetic understanding presented on this website, this final period corresponds to the events of the end times.
It will begin when a future world leader confirms a covenant with Israel and many nations.
That covenant marks the beginning of the seventieth week of Daniel.
Daniel 9:27 is one of the most significant verses in Bible prophecy.
It declares:
“Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; but in the middle of the week he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.”
Daniel 9:27
According to the prophetic timeline presented on this website, this ruler is the Antichrist.
Shortly after the war of Gog and Magog, he will emerge as a global leader capable of bringing temporary peace to a world shaken by war, political instability, and economic crisis.
He will confirm a seven-year covenant with Israel and many nations.
This covenant marks the beginning of the final prophetic week.
Halfway through those seven years, he will break the covenant.
He will stop the Temple sacrifices and commit the Abomination of Desolation foretold by Daniel.
Jesus directly referred to this event in Matthew 24, warning His disciples to flee when they see this act of desecration.
This betrayal marks the beginning of the Great Tribulation, an unparalleled period of suffering that will culminate in the glorious return of Jesus Christ.
For this reason, Daniel 9 serves as the foundation for the prophetic timeline developed throughout the New Testament.
