15 And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, and sought for the meaning, then, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man.
16 And I heard a man's voice between the banks of Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision.
17 So he came near where I stood: and when he came, I was afraid, and fell upon my face: but he said unto me, Understand, O son of man: for at the time of the end shall be the vision.
18 Now as he was speaking with me, I was in a deep sleep on my face toward the ground: but he touched me, and set me upright.
19 And he said, Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end shall be.
20 The ram which thou sawest having two horns are the kings of Media and Persia.
21 And the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king.
22 Now that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power.
23 And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.
24 And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.
25 And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.
26 And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days.
In this passage, the angel Gabriel explains Daniel’s vision of the ram and the goat. The ram represents the empire of Media and Persia, while the goat represents Greece. The great horn of the goat represents its first king, Alexander the Great, who would defeat the Persian Empire before his kingdom was divided into four parts.
Gabriel then announces that, at the end of these kingdoms, a fierce and cunning king will arise. This description refers to Antiochus IV Epiphanes, a Greek ruler who persecuted the Jewish people, desecrated the temple in Jerusalem, and opposed God. He would achieve great success for a time, but he would ultimately be defeated by God.
This prophecy therefore had a historical fulfillment through Antiochus IV Epiphanes, but it also points forward to events that foreshadow the future actions of the Antichrist. Like Antiochus, the Antichrist will seek to exalt himself against God, persecute His people, and exercise great authority, but he will ultimately be destroyed by God's power.
This vision reminds us that God knows history in advance and that even the most powerful rulers remain under His authority.
11 And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
12 And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.
13 But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
14 And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.
15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.
16 And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.
17 And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
18 And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years.
19 And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.
20 And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.
In this passage, the angel Gabriel announces to Zacharias the miraculous birth of John the Baptist. Gabriel reveals that John will have a special mission: to prepare the people of Israel for the coming of the Lord and to lead many people back to God.
John the Baptist will fulfill this mission with the spirit and power of Elijah, according to the prophecy of Malachi 4:5-6. He will be a messenger sent to prepare hearts to receive Jesus, the promised Messiah.
Zacharias' response shows his doubt because he and Elisabeth are advanced in age. Gabriel then reminds him of his identity and authority as a messenger sent from God. Because of his unbelief, Zacharias will remain unable to speak until the fulfillment of God's promise.
This passage reveals the important role of Gabriel in God's plan: he delivers prophetic announcements concerning the coming of the Messiah and the preparation of the people before the arrival of Jesus.
26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.
38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
In this passage, the angel Gabriel is sent by God to Mary to announce that she will give birth to Jesus, the Son of the Highest. This announcement fulfills God's promises concerning the Messiah who would come from the line of David and reign forever.
Gabriel reveals that Jesus will not be an ordinary child: He will be conceived through the power of the Holy Spirit and will be called the Son of God. His reign will be eternal and will fulfill the promises God made to David concerning a kingdom that will have no end.
Mary expresses her amazement at this announcement, but she humbly accepts God's will by saying: “Behold the handmaid of the Lord.” Her response demonstrates her faith and submission to God's plan.
This passage reveals the role of Gabriel as God's messenger in the fulfillment of His plan of salvation and announces the arrival of Jesus, the promised Messiah, who came to fulfill the prophecies announced in Scripture.
19 And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.
In this verse, the angel Gabriel reveals his identity to Zacharias and explains his mission. He presents himself as a messenger who stands before God and who has been sent to deliver an important announcement.
Gabriel does not speak by his own authority; he acts as a servant of God entrusted with communicating His will. In this context, he announces the birth of John the Baptist, who will have the mission of preparing the people for the coming of Jesus, the Messiah.
This verse shows Gabriel’s role in the fulfillment of God’s plan: he serves as a heavenly messenger during important moments in the history of salvation, faithfully delivering the words that God entrusts to him.
