📖 UNDERSTAND THE BIBLE
10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
In this passage, John describes the final judgment after the thousand-year reign of Jesus. After his final rebellion, Satan is permanently defeated and cast into the lake of fire, where the beast and the false prophet already are. His judgment is eternal and marks the complete end of his opposition against God.
John then sees the great white throne, before which the dead appear to be judged. All those who did not receive salvation are raised and stand before God. The books are opened, and each person is judged according to their works, revealing God's perfect justice.
Death and hell are also cast into the lake of fire, showing that even death, which entered the world because of sin, is finally defeated and removed.
This judgment leads to the second death, the lake of fire, where all those whose names are not found written in the book of life are cast. It prepares the way for the eternal state, with the new heavens and the new earth, where God will dwell forever with those who belong to Him.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
In this verse, John describes the final destruction of death and hell after the judgment before the great white throne. They are cast into the lake of fire, meaning that even the ultimate consequence of sin, death, will be permanently removed.
The second death refers to the final judgment in the lake of fire. It does not refer to physical death, but to eternal separation from God for those who reject His salvation.
This passage shows the final victory of God over sin and all its consequences. After this judgment, death will no longer exist, preparing the way for the new creation, where eternal life and the perfect presence of God will reign forever.
8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
In this verse, John describes the final judgment reserved for those who reject God and refuse His salvation. After the establishment of the new heavens and the new earth, those who remain in sin and opposition to God will not share in eternal life but will have their part in the lake of fire, which is called the second death.
This list describes different forms of rebellion against God: unbelief, idolatry, violence, immorality, and falsehood. It shows that God's judgment concerns those who deliberately persist in sin without turning to Him.
The second death refers to eternal separation from God in the lake of fire. This judgment contrasts with the destiny of those whose names are written in the book of life, who will live forever in the presence of God.
7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,
8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.
9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.
10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
In this passage, John describes the events that take place at the end of the Millennial Kingdom. After being bound for one thousand years, Satan is released for a short time and once again deceives the nations, referred to here as Gog and Magog, gathering them for one final rebellion against God.
The rebellious armies surround the people of God, but the revolt is immediately crushed when fire comes down from heaven and consumes them. No prolonged battle takes place, for God’s victory is instantaneous and complete.
This passage marks the final defeat of Satan. He is cast into the lake of fire, where the Antichrist and the False Prophet have already been thrown, and he will be punished there forever. Every rebellion against God comes to an end, preparing the way for the Great White Throne Judgment.
