« But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. »
In this passage, Jesus teaches that a believer’s highest priority should be to seek the kingdom of God and to live according to His righteousness. Rather than being consumed with worry about material needs, His followers are called to put God first in their lives and trust Him to provide for everything they need.
To seek the kingdom of God means to desire above all else to do God’s will, grow in a relationship with Him, and live according to the teachings of Jesus Christ. God’s righteousness refers to a life that pleases Him, marked by obedience, faith, and holiness.
This verse reminds believers that when God has first place in their lives, they can trust Him to care for their needs. It encourages Christians to make spiritual priorities their primary focus, relying on God’s faithfulness and seeking His kingdom above everything else.
“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”
In this verse, James exhorts believers not only to hear God’s Word but also to put it into practice in their daily lives. Genuine faith is demonstrated through obedience and action.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
In this passage, Paul describes the fruit of the Spirit, the qualities that the Holy Spirit produces in the lives of those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ. In contrast to the works of the flesh mentioned in the preceding verses, these characteristics reflect God’s nature and are the evidence of a transformed life.
The fruit of the Spirit includes love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance (self-control). These qualities are not merely the result of human effort, but of the Holy Spirit working in the heart of a believer who walks with God.
This passage reminds us that true Christian maturity is revealed through a character that reflects Jesus Christ. As believers allow the Holy Spirit to guide their lives, they grow in holiness and become a living testimony of God’s love and grace.
« Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. »
In this passage, Jesus calls His disciples to live in a way that reflects God’s light to the world. Through their words, actions, and daily conduct, believers are to display the character of Jesus Christ so that others can see the difference He makes in their lives.
Good works are not the means of obtaining salvation, but the natural result of genuine faith. They are the visible evidence of God’s work in a believer’s life and lead others to recognize and glorify God the Father.
This verse reminds every Christian to be a living testimony of the love, grace, and truth of Jesus Christ. By faithfully living according to God’s will, believers can influence those around them and lead them to glorify the Lord.
