Revelation 7 Explained

Revelation 7 provides a pause between the sixth and the seventh seal. Before God's judgments continue, He carries out two major actions. First, He seals 144,000 Israelites from the twelve tribes of Israel. Then John receives a vision of a great multitude standing before God's throne.

This chapter shows that even in the midst of the judgments of the Tribulation, God continues His work of salvation and faithfully accomplishes His plan. The 144,000 are given a special mission on earth, while the great multitude provides a prophetic glimpse of the final victory of those who remain faithful to God throughout the Great Tribulation.

What Happens in Revelation 7?

Before the judgments continue, God commands that 144,000 Israelites, from the twelve tribes of Israel, be sealed with His mark. This seal protects them for the mission they will carry out during the Tribulation.

They will serve God on earth and faithfully proclaim His message in a world dominated by the Antichrist. Their sealing demonstrates that God remains in complete control of events and protects those He calls to accomplish His work.

The 144,000 Are Sealed

A Great Multitude Appears in Heaven

John then sees an innumerable multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and language. They stand before God's throne and worship the Lamb, declaring that salvation belongs to God.

This vision provides a preview of the final victory of those who remain faithful to God throughout the Tribulation. Having endured persecution, they now stand in God's presence and worship Him forever.

They Come Out of the Great Tribulation

One of the elders explains to John that this great multitude is made up of those who will come out of the Great Tribulation, the second half of the seven-year Tribulation. John is given a prophetic glimpse of their final victory. Though they remained faithful to God even at the cost of their lives, they now stand before His throne.

Their robes, washed white in the blood of the Lamb, remind us that their salvation rests entirely on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

God Will Wipe Away Every Tear

The chapter ends with a wonderful promise of hope. Those standing before God's throne will never again experience hunger, thirst, or suffering. The Lamb will be their Shepherd, leading them to springs of living water, and God Himself will wipe every tear from their eyes.

This vision reveals the eternal reward awaiting those who remain faithful to God. In the midst of Revelation's judgments, it reminds us that the final victory belongs to God and to all who belong to Him.
