Who Is Satan?

The Bible presents Satan as the chief adversary of God and His plan. Also called the devil, the dragon, and the ancient serpent, he has sought from the beginning to deceive humanity and turn people away from God. His influence appears throughout Scripture, from the Garden of Eden to the final events revealed in Revelation.

At the end of the age, his activity will reach its climax. He will give authority to the Antichrist, empower the False Prophet, and persecute Israel and those who remain faithful to God during the Great Tribulation. Yet despite his power, his destiny has already been revealed: God will ultimately defeat him.

Who Is Satan According to the Bible?

The Bible presents Satan as a created spiritual being who rebelled against God. His pride led him to oppose his Creator and seek a position that belonged to God alone.

This rebellion marks the beginning of his opposition to God and explains why Satan became the adversary of God and His people.

His Origin

The Deceiver of Humanity

Since the Garden of Eden, Satan has sought to turn people away from God. Jesus describes him as a liar, while Revelation calls him the one who deceives the whole world.

His goal is to prevent people from knowing the truth and trusting God. His influence is expressed through deception, lies, and rebellion against God's will.

His Role in the End Times

During the Great Tribulation, Satan will be cast down to the earth after the war in heaven described in Revelation 12. Knowing that his time is short, he will give his authority to the Antichrist, support the False Prophet, and wage war against Israel and those who remain faithful to God.

These events show that Satan's activity will reach its greatest intensity before the glorious return of Jesus.

Satan's Final Destiny

After Jesus returns, Satan will be bound for a thousand years during the Millennial Kingdom. At the end of this period, he will be released for one final rebellion before being permanently thrown into the lake of fire, where he will be judged forever.

The Bible therefore makes clear that evil will not have the final victory. The ultimate victory belongs entirely to God.
