Who Is the Holy Spirit?

📖 Acts 5:3-4

3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

In this passage, Peter confronts Ananias, who claimed to give God the full proceeds from the sale of his land while secretly keeping part of the money for himself. His sin was not that he kept some of the money, but that he lied to the Holy Spirit in an attempt to appear more generous than he really was.

This event was fulfilled in the first century, during the early days of the Church. It clearly demonstrates that the Holy Spirit is God, because Peter first says that Ananias lied to the Holy Spirit, and then declares that he had lied to God.
