📖  Matthew 25:1-13

1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.

3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:

4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.

6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.

8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.

9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.

11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.

12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

In this parable, Jesus compares the kingdom of heaven to ten virgins waiting for the arrival of the Bridegroom. Five were wise and prepared with enough oil for their lamps, while five were foolish and unprepared. When the Bridegroom arrived, only those who were ready entered the wedding feast, and the door was shut.

This prophecy has not yet been fulfilled. According to the prophetic chronology presented on this website, it points to the Rapture of the Church, which will take place after the invasion of Gog and Magog, after the confirmation of the seven-year covenant, and before the beginning of the judgments of the Tribulation. When Jesus Christ comes for His people, only those who truly belong to Him will be received into His presence.

This parable is a call to constant readiness and genuine faith. Jesus reminds His followers that no one knows the exact day or hour of His coming. Believers are therefore called to live faithfully every day, always prepared to meet their Lord when He returns.

📖  Matthew 24:42-44

42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.

44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

In this passage, Jesus urges His disciples to remain constantly watchful and prepared for His coming. By comparing His return to that of a thief who arrives unexpectedly, He emphasizes that no one knows the exact moment when these events will take place.

This prophecy has not yet been fulfilled. According to the prophetic chronology presented on this website, these words apply to the Rapture of the Church, which will take place after the invasion of Gog and Magog, after the confirmation of the seven-year covenant, and before the beginning of the judgments of the Tribulation. Although believers can recognize the signs that these events are approaching, the exact day and hour remain known only to God.

This passage is a call to continual watchfulness and genuine faith. Jesus encourages every believer to live in constant readiness, faithfully serving Him, so that they will be prepared when He comes to receive His Church.

📖  Revelation 3:10-11

10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

In this passage, Jesus Christ speaks to the church in Philadelphia and promises to keep it from the hour of temptation that will come upon the whole world. This worldwide period of testing corresponds to the seven-year Tribulation, during which the inhabitants of the earth will experience the judgments announced in biblical prophecy.

This promise concerns the Church, not all believers in general. The Church is the Bride of Christ and the body of those who belong to Him during the Church Age. Its mission is to proclaim the Gospel, make disciples, testify about Jesus Christ, and serve Him in the world. Christ will come to take His Church in the Rapture, before this worldwide period of testing.

In verse 11, Jesus adds, “Behold, I come quickly,” and urges the Church to remain faithful so that no one takes its crown. This reward is connected with faithfulness in serving Christ, as also shown in 2 Timothy 4:8. After the Rapture, people will still be able to believe in Jesus Christ during the Tribulation, but they will not be part of the Church, because the Church will already have been raptured and the Church Age will have ended.

📖  The Church = the Bride

The Church as the Bride of Christ

In the Bible, the Church is presented as the Bride of Christ. This image draws on the marriage customs of biblical times and helps explain why the Rapture is presented as the moment when Christ comes to take His Bride to Himself.

The Marriage Picture in the Bible

In the marriage customs of ancient Israel, the father of the bridegroom had an important role in the marriage arrangement. After the engagement, the bridegroom would leave to prepare a place for his future bride.

He would later return at the appointed time to take her to himself. The bride therefore had to remain ready and wait for the bridegroom’s arrival. This imagery helps us understand the words of Jesus:

“I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” — John 14:3

Jesus is the Bridegroom, and the Church is His Bride. It is therefore significant that He says He will return to receive His Bride to Himself.

The Role of the Father

Jesus also spoke about the exact timing of His coming:

“But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.” — Matthew 24:36

Within the marriage imagery, this corresponds to the traditional role of the father in determining when the son would go to receive his bride. The Son knew that He would return, but the exact timing was in the Father’s hands.

However, an important distinction should be made: the Bible does not explicitly state that Christian marriage reproduces every detail of an ancient Jewish wedding ceremony. Rather, these similarities help us understand the biblical imagery surrounding Christ and His Church.

Why This Concerns the Church

This picture also explains why it is important not to simply use the expression “all believers” when speaking about the Rapture.

The Church is the Bride of Christ. Jesus will come to take His Bride so that she may be with Him. People who turn to Jesus Christ during the Tribulation can still be saved, but they will not become part of the Church that has already been raptured.

The Rapture can therefore be understood as the moment when the Bridegroom comes to receive His Bride. The Church Age then comes to an end, while God continues His prophetic plan concerning Israel and the nations.

This also gives special meaning to Revelation 19:7:

“Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.”

The picture is therefore consistent: Christ is the Bridegroom, the Church is His Bride, the Rapture is the gathering of the Bride to her Bridegroom, and the marriage of the Lamb follows.

📖  Romans 8:9

“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.”

In this verse, Paul gives an essential criterion for determining whether a person truly belongs to Jesus: the Holy Spirit must dwell within them. It is therefore not enough simply to call oneself a believer or to outwardly acknowledge Jesus. Those who truly belong to Jesus have the Spirit of God dwelling within them, leading them to live under His direction.

This verse also helps us understand that the Church is not simply made up of everyone who outwardly professes the Christian faith. It is made up of those who truly belong to Jesus, have received the Holy Spirit, serve Him, and live under the guidance of the Spirit.

Paul's statement is particularly strong: “If any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” The presence of the Holy Spirit is therefore directly connected to belonging to Jesus. It distinguishes an outward profession of faith from a genuine relationship with the Lord.
