« And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. »
In this passage, Gabriel announces that the Antichrist will confirm a seven-year covenant with many, marking the beginning of Daniel’s seventieth week. This covenant will bring a period of apparent peace and will allow the sacrificial system in Jerusalem to resume.
In the middle of the seven years, the Antichrist will break the covenant, put an end to the sacrifices, and commit the abomination of desolation by exalting himself against God and demanding the worship that belongs to God alone. This event marks the beginning of the Great Tribulation, a time of unprecedented persecution and even more severe judgments.
This verse is one of the most important prophecies concerning the last days. It announces the beginning of the seven-year Tribulation, which will ultimately be followed by the glorious return of Jesus Christ, the defeat of the Antichrist, and the establishment of Christ’s Millennial Kingdom.
« When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) »
In this passage, Jesus directly refers to the prophecy of Daniel 9:27 concerning the abomination of desolation. This event takes place in the middle of the seven-year Tribulation, when the Antichrist breaks the covenant he had previously confirmed and defiles the holy place.
From that moment, the Antichrist exalts himself against God, demands the worship of the whole world, and begins an unprecedented persecution against those who refuse to follow him. This event marks the beginning of the Great Tribulation, the second half of the seven-year Tribulation.
This verse is a major prophetic milestone. It identifies the abomination of desolation as the sign that marks the intensification of God’s judgments and the final events leading to the glorious return of Jesus Christ, when He will bring the Antichrist’s reign to an end and establish His Millennial Kingdom.
3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
In this passage, Paul foretells the coming of the Antichrist, whom he calls the man of sin and the son of perdition. Before the Day of the Lord, there will be a great apostasy, and the Antichrist will be openly revealed as he opposes God.
This prophecy has not yet been fulfilled. It will be fulfilled in the middle of the seven-year Tribulation, when the Antichrist enters the Third Temple in Jerusalem, brings the sacrifices to an end, and declares himself to be God. This event is the abomination of desolation foretold in Daniel 9:27 and confirmed by Jesus in Matthew 24:15.
This passage reveals the ultimate arrogance of the Antichrist, who will demand the worship that belongs to God alone. This act will mark the beginning of the Great Tribulation and will precede his final judgment at the glorious return of Jesus Christ.
« For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. »
In this verse, Jesus announces the beginning of the Great Tribulation, a period of distress unlike anything the world has ever experienced. This period begins after the abomination of desolation, when the Antichrist desecrates the Temple and intensifies his persecution of those who remain faithful to God.
The Great Tribulation refers to the second half of the seven-year Tribulation. During this time, God’s judgments and the persecution carried out by the Antichrist will reach an unprecedented level.
This verse emphasizes the unique severity of this period. Jesus warns that this time of suffering will be unparalleled in human history. Yet it will not last forever, for God has set its limits and will bring it to an end with the glorious return of Jesus Christ.
