The chapter opens with the announcement of the Day of the Lord, the future period when God will intervene directly in human history.
Zechariah foretells a time of great distress for Jerusalem.

In this prophecy, Zechariah announces the glorious return of the Lord to the Mount of Olives. This passage is associated with the return of Jesus Christ at the end of the seven-year Tribulation.
